Digital Age Response

Prensky’s thoughts are obviously pro ICT in schools, due to society’s digital born natives; I agree that it needs to be catered to in Pedagogy methods, Big Time.  What comes to my mind though, I watched a video of Sir Ken Robinson “Says school kills creativity.” He mentioned a couple of stories that were highly amusing to me.

A young boy was one of the 3 wise men in the school naivety play and said “I am Frank sent me” instead of Frankincense.

A young girl in class also expressed to her teacher “I’m going to draw a picture of God” and the teacher responds, “you don’t know what he looks like,”, and she said. “You will in a minute.”

Personally what I have witnessed with technology is that it’s used heavily for social networking and entertainment, now that’s another subject.   My challenge will be to utilize ICT’s for learning, engaging students and respond creatively. Maybe they can paint a computer and act out a phone conversation or will that enrage them?
